Yoobao Executive Leather Case for iPad 2 (V3): How to Spot a Counterfeit or Earlier Version

Few days ago we posted a story of an Amazon buyer being scammed by a rogue seller (found here), and felt that we should educate consumers on how to tell an authentic V3 of the Yoobao executive leather case for iPad 2 (V3) from a counterfeit or earlier version.

We strongly recommend buying from reputable Yoobao dealers such as ourselves – Xengadget.com.  If you want to try your luck with cheaper sellers, here are what you should know:

  1. Yoobao added magnetic closure mechanism to version 3 to keep the cover in place when closed.  This is to prevent the cover being opened accidentally and should save the battery life of your iPad 2.
  2. Before you buy, ask for pictures of the packaging.  There are two versions of packaging for version 3: as shown in the first picture, the packaging feature an apple shaped opening; and as shown in the second picture, the packaging features a rectangle shaped opening is the latest packaging.
  3. Please note that on the bottom of both version of the packaging, Yoobao kept the same design: from left to right, there are laser anti-counterfeit label, labels for three color options, logo representing hibernation/smart cover function, and the logo representing the ultra lightweight feature of the case.

The reason for the packaging change is simple: Yoobao doesn’t want any potential problems coming from the apple-shaped opening.

That’s about it.  Educate yourself being you buy and remember the old saying, you get what you pay for.

And lastly, enjoy your iPad 2.

What if they put an old version into the new packaging? I believe I may have purchased from someone who has done this! Does the smell of the 3 generation smell a little like chemicals?

I cannot believe that some merchants would put the old version case in to the new packaging, and I am sorry to hear that you might get a case that is not V3.

The chemical smell issue has been long gone since the introduction of V2. The V3 improvement vs V2 is the magnetic closure mechanism to keep the cover shut when closed. Please make sure that it works.

      Hope that helps.

Did they solve the issue if the unit falling thru the holder, when rotated to stand up higher? that is my huge issue with my V2

Yoobao Executive iPad 2 cases are without doubt the best iPad cases available.
The V3 is stunning and does ALL it is supposed to do whilst also looking superb and smelling absolutely gorgeous!!
I started using Yoobao cases a few years ago for many of my devices and now own both a Black and a Red Yoobao iPad 2 Version 3 cases for my white iPad 2.
Treat yourself – you will not regret it.
